Flower: A Soul of Nature
A flower also called bloom or blossom is a very important part of a plant. It is the reproductive part present in the plant. As it allow the fusion of the male gamete (pollen grains) and the female gametes (ovules). The flowers have male part stamen consisting anther and filament, and the female part pistil consisting style, stigma and ovary. The anthers contain pollen grains which when come in contact with the sticky stigma initiates the formation a pollen tube, which runs down towards the ovary. And hence, the pollen grain reaches the ovules and fertilization takes place. As a result of fertilization the ovary turns into fruit and the ovules become seeds.
The transfer of pollen
grains from anther to the stigma is termed as pollination. Pollination can take
place in two different ways:
ii) Cross pollination:
transfer of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma of different flower of
the same breed also called as outcrossing.
Pollination is a very
important process in the reproduction of the flower. It can occur naturally or
can be done by the agents who include insects, bees, moths, butterflies, birds
and bats.
Now this gives the
answer of the question. Why flowers are so beautiful? Because, they are the
chosen ones by nature to attract one or the other agent toward themselves.
Flowers are colorful, have different structure, the fragrance do vary from
flower to flower.
"The beauty of the
flower is a by-product of what it takes for the plant to attract
pollinators," says dePamphilis".
