Cydonia oblonga: The Quince

The quince is the only member of the genus Cydonia that belongs to family Rosaceae. It is a small plant with multiple branches which grows upto 5–8 feet in height and 4–5 m width.It bears a pome fruit, similar in appearance to a pear, and bright golden-yellow when mature.  It is rich in secondary metabolites such as phenolics, steroids, flavonoids, terpenoids, tannins, sugars, organic acids, and glycosides.  It also possess various pharmacologic activities like antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, cardiovascular, antidepressant, antidiarrheal, hypolipidemic, diuretic, and hypoglycemic.

Quince tree 

The immature fruit of this plant remains green with dense grey-white fine hair, which starts itching when come in contact of skin & which mostly rubs off before maturity of fruit in late autumn when the fruit changes color to yellow with hard, strongly perfumed flesh.
